Flower Pressing for Dummies

This past weekend I went garage saleing and found a box of 10 picture frames (with um, interesting pictures in them) for $5. One of the things I decided to do in my quest to decorate the house on the cheap was make pressed leaf pictures. Cheap picture frames + professionally landscaped grounds = cool cheap artwork.

Of course, I am too impatient to wait to press the flowers the right way so I did it the ADD way.

I put the flowers into the frame how I think I want them. (Checking often, because they shift easily.) Once I had it the way I wanted it, I just closed the frame.

My particular leaves were bumpy, so the back of the frame didn't sit flat. I just piled some heavy books on the back of it to add pressure.

Once they are pressed and dry I will change the paper, because I have a feeling it will need it. My neighbor told me the type of plant the leaves came from, so I might add something like the Latin name. (If I do, I will just print it on the paper before I put it back into the frame.) While I am doing that I will paint the frame.

Of course, it might not work. If that is the case I will press them the right way... maybe.

I was planning to do more today, but the thunderstorms had other ideas.
